About HodHod
One of Egypt's richest artistic traditions is quietly disappearing: Sha3bi art. It's the vibrant, hand-painted vernacular art of everyday Egyptian life.
HodHod exists to preserve it.
Every piece we create begins with an authentic object that has already lived a life: a fruit cart that once rolled through the streets of Cairo, a fisherman's boat from Alexandria, or a village food cart where neighbors gathered each morning for breakfast. We restore these forgotten pieces by hand, preserving their stories while giving them a new purpose in today's homes.
عن هدهد
واحد من أغنى التقاليد الفنية في الشارع المصري بينقرض في هدوء: الفن الشعبي. هو الفن اللي اتولد من قلب الشارع المصري، بألوانه الزاهية ورسوماته اليدوية، واللي بيعكس تفاصيل الحياة اليومية بكل بساطة وأصالة.
وده بالضبط سبب وجود هدهد.
كل قطعة بنلاقيها ونرممها بتبدأ بحتة أصلية عاشت حكاية طويله: عربية فاكهة كان بيسترزق بيها صاحبها في شوارع القاهرة، أو مركب صياد على شط اسكندرية، أو عربية فول في قرية صغيرة كانوا بتجمعوا عليها الفلاحين عشان يفطروا قبل خروجهم للغيط.
بنلاقي القطع دي مهملة ومنسية، بناخدها ونرممها بإيدينا، ونحافظ على الحكايات اللي شايلينها في رسوماتهم وكتابتهم و نديها حياة جديدة في بيوت النهارده.
Our Mission
To seek out Egypt's Sha3bi pieces before they disappear — restoring each one with respect for its natural patina and history, and giving it a second life as art or furniture for the modern home.
Our Vision
We believe Egypt's vernacular craftsmanship deserves to stand alongside its Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic heritage — recognized and honored as a true art form. We envision homes that proudly hold a piece of Egypt's living memory.
رؤيتنا
بنؤمن إن الحرف والفنون الشعبية المصرية تستحق نفس التقدير والاعتراف اللي بتحظى بيه حضارتنا الفرعونية وتراثنا القبطي والإسلامي، وإنها تُقدَّر كفن حقيقي له قيمته. ورؤيتنا هي أن بيوتنا يكون فيها قطع من تراثنا الحي نستعملها بكل فخر.
رسالتنا
نسعى للبحث عن قطع الفن الشعبي المصري قبل ما تختفي، ونرمم كل قطعة بتقدير لتاريخها وتأثير الزمن عليها، ونمنحها حياة جديدة كقطعة فنية أو قطعة أثاث تناسب بيوت النهارده.
